“Toilet police” unconstitutional

Diane Holmes would like bylaw officers to be able to go into your home, into your bathroom, and check on your toilet, all without a warrant.

This past Tuesday, the Somerset councillor put forward a motion suggesting that the City of Ottawa ask the province to expand right of entry provisions found in the Ontario Municipal Act to cover toilet inspections. In some cases, toilets that were improperly installed are draining into the storm sewers.

“I don’t think it’s a big issue,” she said.
